New Sneakers for the Truck

Well after a long day on Friday that started with a flat tire on my OEM Bridgestone tires. Ended the day with a new set of Michelin LTX M/S all around. Turns out the old tire had a crack on the sidewall. I planned to replace them all next year. They had 28K original miles on them.
Anyhow, the new Michelin LTX's are fantastic and I have not even towed with them yet. What a difference. We had heavy rain yesterday afternoon and on the ride home from the tire shop the truck never drove so good, really. I always had trouble on wet roads with the rear end sliding when pulling out from a stop, not no more. The ride is so much better too and much smoother and less noise.
I read many comments on here about the Michelin LTX tires and they seem to be well liked.

Power Awning Pictures

Seems like many are having problems with the new power awning being uses by A & E on the new TT's. We do not like ours either because the rain water does not drain off. Here are some pictures that might show why.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f264/mrstrauss/Flagstaff%20831FKBSS/DSCN2360.jpg height=320 width=240
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f264/mrstrauss/Flagstaff%20831FKBSS/DSCN2362.jpg height=320 width=240
As you can see the roller is about 2 inches higher then the edge of the awning material. This seems to be causing a damming effect for the rain water. Ours has already started to stretch as you can see.
Something needs to be changed in the design of this awning. It needs to be able to be adjusted so that rain water can drain before someone gets hurt from a collapse.

RE: Flagstaff

We looked at TT's and 5ers for over 2 years and kept coming back to the Forest River line. We went with Flagstaff because of the dealer and being close to our home. We are very pleased with the quality of this unit. Forest River has a lot of nice rigs. We also like the Wildcat line.

RE: Rockwood Signature Ultralites and Flagstaff Classic Ultra

We have been retracting the awning when the rain starts or if it gets windy. I am not sure if we are going to like this awning. It has loaded up with rain water and would not retract until I drained it by pushing up on the awning with a broom, and gallons of water dumped. I read on another forum that A&E might have an adjustment in order to allow for water drain. Anyone else have information on this?

RE: more seems to be the answer

We just got back from the Jersey shore and many campgrounds are offering to store your rig on a site for free, not sure of the details. The CG we stayed was only about 75 percent full on the weekend and less then 50 on a weekday. Seeing a lot of RV's for sale at both the shore and locally in the paper. Also seeing pick ups and SUV's for sale. Gas ranged from $3.95 to $4.15 on this trip.

Water Heater Whoosh

Our water heater makes a loud "Whoosh" sound when it fires on LP. You hear the clicks then the "Whoosh" sometimes it does not fire on the first try. It has also needed to be reset a couple times. Our last HTT had the same water heater but never made this sound. Is this normal? We have not had to have this TT back for warranty work yet, could this be our first? So far it is working just worried about the "Whoosh".

RE: Electric Awning???

We have the new power awning also and still are not sure if we like it or not. Same problem with it loading up with water even in a light rain situation. On our current trip it would not retract until I manually pushed up on the awning material with a broom to "Dump" the water then it retracted. We have had it in and out many times. Even got up in the middle of the night when rain started. We use to like to keep the chairs out under the old tilted awning when it rained, not anymore. Very interested in what RPFAN had to say about the Weather Pro model. Problem is I think we have a different model. It is an A&E but not that number. Any other Forest River people hear about this added feature? Thanks.

RE: Has anyone ever stayed at the Fayetteville NC KOA?

Yes last June on the way to Myrtle Beach. It was very nice and clean. Easy on and off for I-95. The pool was nice. We had one of the large sites toward the front and it was great. Two good gas stations right out front at the interchange. Only problem was no places to eat close by, pack some food for cooking. We really do not remember hearing any noise from the interstate either. We would stay again.

RE: KOA A FORMER FAMILY KAMPGROUND

My other two cents worth. I feel that maintaining a campground required some expense on the part of the owner. We all have big A/C units on the roof that draw 30 or even 50 amps of electric and that costs the campground money during the summer months. We also expect all the perks like wireless Internet and cable TV hook up, that's not free to the owner. He also has to pay for some type of water either public or from his own source. And then the sewer and trash. Add those numbers up if you were paying just what you use at a campground. I know that not all KOA's are the same but they do give you a fair price for what you get. JMHO but we like KOA.
As for camping at a Wal Mart being better. Never did that but here is a recent experience we had in New Jersey on the way to the shore. Planned a short 1 hour stop to pick up some last minute items at a Wal Mart. Parked the TV and TT way out in the lot. Took up maybe 6 parking spaces. No one around. Well, we were a nervous wreck and it was the middle of the day. People cutting across the lot on every which way expect in the travel lanes. Crisis crossing the lot. This happens in every type store parking lot now a days due to the screwy way that they lay out these lots. But sitting like a duck in the middle of this lot was very stressful and we were not even sleeping. Could not imagine what the night brings. Anyhow paying for a site at a KOA would be less stressful.

RE: KOA A FORMER FAMILY KAMPGROUND

Been a member of KOA for 10 years now. I have seen good and bad in KOA's that we stayed at. I know that some are no longer KOA campgrounds, we feel because maybe they did not conform to the new KOA standards. One near us Twin Grove KOA near Pine Grove PA is a flagship model for KOA. The staff is wonderful and the sites are very large. As for the price, everything is going up even State Parks and resorts. Just a sign of the times. I think at KOA at least you know ahead of time what your getting. The on-line reservation is neat. I would give KOA an overall 8 out of 10 rating. Hard to find a 10 campground anywhere.

3rd Week Of June

Here it is the 3rd full week of June already.
Is the campground your staying at full?
We are currently at Holly Shores just outside Wildwood New Jersey. I can report that it is absolutely dead here. Is this normal? I know some of the schools in this area are only getting out this week but most if not all in PA are finished for at least a week or more.
The boardwalk and restaurants seem slow too so I do not think it is just RV's that are keeping the crowds down.
I would say this place is about 25 percent or less full. We think most of the units we see are seasonal sites.
What's it like where you are?

RE: Slide Out Lights not working

Problem solved, turned out it was a fuse after closer inspection. Just a note, the light to tell you a fuse is blown only come on if the light switch for that fuse is in the on position. Learned something. Thanks for all of your input.

RE: Slide Out Lights not working

Thanks for the quick reply's. I just looked briefly under each slide and the wires are inside one of the corrugated plastic sleeves. They seem to run down the inside of the slide frame on the larger front slide, that slide had two frames. The rear bed slide they seem to be different. We had a big rain last not, the problem was before the rain, so I want to wait till things underneath the slides dry out a bit on the ground for me to crawl around and do a closer inspection of the wiring harness. I think you guys might be onto something even thou the design is different. Thanks again. I will keep you posted.

Slide Out Lights not working

We are having a problem with the interior lights on both of our slide outs. They are not working. I have checked the fuse panel and none are blown, but then again they are not marked very well either. We have one of the illuminated indicators to tell if a fuse is blown and none are lit. Anyone have a suggestion? We have emailed the dealer since we are away at the New Jersey shore. Every other light is working fine and the slide motors work. The only thing we did different was to use the slide locks for this trip, but that should not have caused any problems. Thanks

RE: Slide Locks

We just got all everything loaded and hitched up for a 160 mile trip. We are going to give them a try. I took my time in installing them and they were not really all that bad. I am 6'2 and it was still kind of hard to see where they go. I thought I would use a 2 foot step ladder but that was useless. I made sure they were good and snug, I do not want the coming out. We will see how it goes.

RE: Rockwood 8315SS Frame Sag?

Our brand new Flagstaff 831FKBSS rear door had a slight stick on the lower jam side of the door. After looking it was a screw that needed filing down. Did not notice it during the PDI but then again we did not have any stuff loaded and not set up on a campsite. We were on a concrete floor inside a shop. I think this was normal sag. I would keep and eye on that and try and measure some reference point outside and check them in the same conditions each time. Flat and level or with or without the jacks down. You also might be setting the rear jacks too tight or not tight enough. JMHO

RE: emergency brake when unhitching

One of my worst fears is that that cable gets tangled in with the WDH bars or something else and engages the brakes. I would not mess with that part that pulls out of the trailer on a regular basis because it may come out when your traveling down that road. And we all know what that will do right? Use a wheel chock and make it a habit. Another thing I have been telling DW is to stay clear from between the TT and the TV when raising off the ball. Be prepared to jump back out of the way. I always use the power jack with an extended arm until I am sure the TT is stable and not rolling. JMHO

RE: Lost then Found

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We are stopping at a large CW on the way to the shore, maybe getting the whole assembly is not a bad idea. If the housing breaks then I have a spare one of them. Glad to hear the kit should come with the putty seal tape.
